Organic Alcohol
Alcohols are used frequently in cosmetics, bringing its absorbent properties to oils to create a lighter mixture that absorbs and evaporates more quickly into the skin.
Aloe Vera
Used to soften skin as far back as Queens Cleopatra and Nefertiti. Alexander the Great and Christopher Columbus were said to use aloe vera to treat soldier's wounds. The pulp of the aloe plant is used for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It is also anti-inflammatory, hydrating and offers protection from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Our aloe vera has no preservatives or additives.
Arnica CO2 Extraction (Arnica montana)
Arnica extract has analgesic, anti-arthritic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antiplatelet properties. It is used for treatment of bruises, contusions, dislocations, hematoma, muscle soreness, backache, cramps, sprains, fibrositis, relief of muscle and joint pains and stiffness. It has a blood circulation-enhancing effect and thus is well suited for treatment of venous insufficiency. The latest research in the field of chronic and age-related diseases proves arnica’s efficacy in cases of rheumatic and inflammatory conditions like osteoarthritis.
Apricot Kernel Oil (Prunus armeniaca)
Derived from the seeds of those delectable little stone fruits, apricot kernel oil is cold-pressed into fragrant oil. It is extremely light and sinks readily into the skin, leaving no greasy residue, making it beneficial for all skin types. It has anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties and is rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, C and E. It also includes gamma linoleic acid, which firms and tones the skin.
Avocado Oil (Persea americana)
Avocado Oil is high in Vitamins A, B, D and E and Beta carotene and is used in products to enrich protein and vitamin content. It is excellent for helping dry skin conditions.
Beeswax
This powerhouse ingredient is in all our products! When included in moisturizing creams and lotions, beeswax creates a barrier on the skin while still allowing the skin to breathe. This barrier locks in moisture and protects skin from the elements and irritants, making it ideal for preventing chapped lips in winter. In addition, beeswax is known for its ability to reduce inflammation, minimize bacteria and germs, and combat allergens. Our beeswax is naturally processed and pure filtered.
Bergamot
This well-known tree is what gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavor. Notes of lemon, orange and balsam are detectable in the green oil produced from its pear-shaped fruit. The oil is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and promotes rapid healing. It also helps regulate excessive oiliness of skin and scalp. It can repel insects and soothe bites and stings.
Black Seed Oil (Nigella sativa)
Also known as Black Cumin oil, this highly nutritive oil has high vitamin, mineral and essential fatty oil contents. It has been used as an all-purpose medicinal oil for centuries, especially for skin problems.
Bladderwrack (Ascopsyllum nodosum)
A type of seaweed, bladderwrack can contain iodine, and is used to boost the immune system and increase energy as well as for thyroid disorders and skin problems such as burns, bites, and aging skin.
Blue Cypress (Callistris intratropica)
Originating in Australia, Blue Cypress oil has been used medicinally for thousands of years, valued for its sweet, balsamic evergreen aroma. Blue cypress oil has a wide variety of uses, supporting the body’s natural response to irritation and injury. It has also been used as a natural additive in perfumes.
Carrot Seed Essential Oil CO2 Extraction (Daucus carota)
Carrot is a domesticated form of the wild carrot Daucus carota, native to Europe and southwestern Asia. It had great medicinal value to the Greeks and Romans in ancient times, especially for its carminative properties. The herb was transported to the Americas where it became known as Queen Anne's Lace, and the edible orange root as we know it was developed by the Dutch in the 1700's. This oil has a fruity and somewhat musky odor. High in carotenes, it is considered one of the best oils to enhance the appearance of mature skin. Its chemical constituents may stimulate cell growth while removing toxins, which gives the skin a more toned, youthful appearance. Many tout its effectiveness in treating scars, wounds and burns.
Castor Oil (Ricinus communis)
Castor carrier oil is one of the few oils that can be used as an emulsifying agent. It also acts as a defensive barrier on your skin that will protect against harsh environmental conditions, making it a perfect ingredient for use in our lip balms. It is also antifungal and antibacterial. Rich in fatty acids, castor oil is effective for minimizing stretch marks.
Cedarwood
Soft, sweet, and woody, cedarwood is known for its ability to repel insects and moths, and its fresh, clean aroma is invigorating and clarifying. On the skin, it is therapeutic for rashes, blemishes, and infections, and normalizes both dry and oily skin. It is also known for its benefits to hair and scalp – controlling dandruff and seborrhea and minimizing hair loss – and is even said to promote hair growth.
Chamomile
The compounds in chamomile are naturally healing, nourishing, and anti-inflammatory for many skin conditions. Chamomile is very gentle, calms all infections, and soothes the skin. It is a wonderful rejuvenator and is helpful in balancing and soothing the skin.
Cocoa Butter
Made from cocoa beans, the delicious and subdued chocolate aroma of cocoa butter makes it especially appealing for cosmetic use. The rich, stable butter produced from the cocoa pod is deeply hydrating and full of antioxidants. It reduces signs of aging and stress. It is wonderful for protecting skin exposed to the elements, and also for healing and moisturizing. It can also reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
Coconut Oil
We use organic, fresh pressed, virgin, whole kernel, unrefined coconut oil in all our products, which is high quality and free of chemicals. It provides several important benefits. First, it has very protective properties, guarding against free radicals, blemishes, aging, and sunlight exposure. Next, it smoothes the skin by removing dead cells on the skin's outer later. Then it deeply moisturizes skin and provides healing benefits to damaged skin and combats the effects of aging.
Coffee Essential Oil (Coffea arabica L)
The warming and invigorating oil of Coffea arabica, the earliest cultivated species of the coffee tree, is included in our lip balms for your olfactory enjoyment. Coffee is loaded with flavonoids and antioxidants, and is a powerful stimulant.
Elemi (Canarium luzonicum)
This spicy, soft scent has a balsamic undertone and was used in the aromatic blend used by ancient Egyptians for embalming. It is highly regarded for its usefulness and effectiveness in smoothing skin and reducing lines and wrinkles.
Frankincense essential oil (Boswellia carterii or Boswellia frereana)
This warm, spicy oil comes from the sap (pearls) of the frankincense tree, which grows in the Middle East. Known for its astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, it is used to treat scars, acne and skin ulcers. It nourishes dry and prematurely aged skin. It is also an excellent immunostimulant and antidepressant.
Geranium
The rose-minty oil produced from this plant has a delightful fragrance that uplifts and reduces stress. On the skin, it helps with healing acne and blemishes, improves varicose veins, and stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems. It helps to balance skin, promotes new skin cell growth, increases radiance, and soothes dry, sensitive skin.
Helichysum
Also known as Italian strawflower, this plant is native to Africa and Australia, but will grow almost anywhere. The paper flowers produce oil with a warm, spicy scent. It has amazing ability to reduce inflammation, soothe burns, and decrease acne. It also restores mature skin and encourages skin regeneration, and helps skin adapt to stress.
Jojoba Golden Oil*, a.k.a. "Nature's Wrinkle Fighter" (Simmondsia chinensis)
This super hydrating oil is derived from shrubs that, ironically, are native to some of the driest desert regions in the southwestern U.S. Jojoba oil is actually a wax and is rich in vitamins E and B-complex, minerals and iodine. The oil is very similar to the natural oils that occur in your skin. It penetrates deep into the skin and actually encourages skin to produce its own oils and self-regulate its own moisture levels. Obviously this all makes jojoba a very valuable moisturizer, but a big reason why we include it in many of our products is that it will not go rancid!
Kokum Butter Natural
Kokum Butter comes from the garcinia indicia tree grown in India. It has a marbled yellow-brown complexion with a slight earthy scent. Often under-rated, kokum butter is one of the most hard and stable vegetable butters. It exhibits excellent emollient properties that can assist with skin regeneration. It is more quickly absorbed into the skin than cocoa butter and leaves no greasy feel.
Lavender
Well known for its calming attributes, many people don't know that lavender is also a natural antibiotic and antiseptic. Lavender oil is incredibly beneficial for all skin types as it revitalizes the skin, soothes, tones, and promotes elasticity. It heals blemishes, stimulates circulation, and is wonderful for reducing or eliminating the discomfort that comes from burns, cold sores, and herpes.
Lemongrass Organic Essential Oil* (Cymbopogon flexuosus)
Originating in India, and traditionally used to treat infectious illness and fever, lemongrass is a fast-growing, tall, aromatic perennial grass that grows up to four feet in height. It is native to Asia, but is now cultivated mostly in the West Indies, Africa, and Tropical Asia. Lemongrass organic essential oil is known for its invigorating and antiseptic properties. It can be used in facial toners as its astringent properties help fight acne and greasy skin. With a fresh, earthy, citrusy scent, lemongrass shares similar properties with citronella and has a great reputation for keeping insects away.
Neroli (Citrus aurantium)
This essential oil has been used as a natural ingredient in perfumes for centuries for its citrusy, floral scent and calming, healing properties. It has a very delicate scent and is held precious in the essential oil world.
Peppermint
The pungent and powerful aroma of peppermint is stimulating and energizing. On the skin, it regulates oily skin and hair and fights bacteria. It improves circulation and minimizes broken capillaries and varicose veins. It also leaves skin feeling soft and silky.
Raspberry Seed Oil (Rubeus idaeus)
Obtained directly from the seeds of the raspberry, Raspberry Seed Oil is used in cosmetics for its high content of Essential Fatty Acids and antioxidants which hydrate the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth. It also has some natural protection against the sun.
Rose Floral Water*
This tonic is derived from certified organic, steam-distilled rose petals. Rosewater contains all the botanical goodness of roses and is a lovely way to tone and moisturize dry skin as well as sooth and promote healing to damaged skin. It also acts as an astringent and is especially useful in caring for the under-eye area.
Rosemary Oil
We use rosemary primarily for its antibacterial properties, which allow us to avoid additives and preservatives. It does not go rancid! This remarkable oil is also known for quite a list of health beauty benefits! To start, its fragrance is stimulating and invigorating and strengthens the central nervous system. It has been used to treat a number of digestive, circulatory, and respiratory ailments. But it is also wonderful for toning and balancing the skin, and improving dry or mature skin. Its high level of antioxidants lends firmness and luminosity to the skin. It stimulates cell renewal, heals burns and wounds, and can reduce broken capillaries and varicose veins. It is particularly nourishing for the scalp and is said to promote hair growth. It can even reduce cellulite!
Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae ramnoides)
Sea buckthorn is a shrub with red or golden berries that grows in Europe and northern Asia. The berries are loaded with beta-carotene, which gives them, and our Night Repair Face Cream, its signature gold color. The berries are also high in vitamins C and E, unsaturated fatty acids, essential amino acids. Sea buckthorn is excellent for minimizing wrinkles and moisturizing. It is also soothing and healing for burns and lacerations, and has been credited with reducing wrinkles and regenerating skin cells.
Shea Butter (Vitellaria paradox)
This anti-inflammatory wonder is extracted from the nut of the shea tree in West Africa. The African people have been using it for centuries and consider it a superior moisturizer. It's loaded with vitamins, minerals, proteins and fatty acids. It has impressive healing properties and an ability to restore elasticity and keep skin supple. It is particularly soothing for eczema and psoriasis, and is helpful for minimizing stretch marks in pregnant women.
Silk Amino Acid Powder
Silk Amino Acid is another fixture in natural cosmetics, containing alanine, glycine and serine, natural protein stimulants also present in hair and skin. Silk Amino Acid conditions and refreshes both skin and hair and is used in a wide variety of cosmetic products including shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, makeup, and more.
Sweet Orange (Citrus sinesis)
Known for its uplifting and clean scent, Orange essential oil is often used in natural household cleaners. It is derived directly from the orange peel, and can also be used as a flavor additive to foods and drinks.
Tamanu Oil, a.k.a. "Beauty Leaf Oil"
Native to Indonesia, the tamanu tree is the origin of this superb moisturizing oil, derived from the tree's leaves and berries. Indonesians have known about its beneficial effects for centuries! Its high lipid content allows it to sink right into the skin very easily. It is known especially for its ability to heal the delicate skin under the eye, but works wonders on skin anywhere on the body.
Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia)
The Totonacs of Veracruz, Mexico are credited as the first cultivators of vanilla bean. In the 1400s The Aztecs showed the Spaniards how vanilla could sweeten their chocolate and perfume their cigars, and the long, dark vanilla beans became part of the Spanish empire's rich colonial trade as early as the middle of the 16th century. Vanilla is a perennial herbaceous climbing vine that can grow up to 82 feet high and takes up to 18 months to produce its first flowers. The small yellow-green orchid blooms for only a few hours before wilting unless it is naturally pollinated by insects – a rare occurrence – or hand- pollinated by workers. Vanilla absolute is popular for its aphrodisiac properties. It is a comforting, calming oil that promotes love and peace.
Vetiver
Native to India, Vetiver is a grass that grows up to six feet. When processed, the roots produce dark-colored, thick oil that is earthy or musky. On skin, vetiver is balancing, rejuvenative, and healing. It is especially helpful during pregnancy where it may reduce or prevent stretch marks. It also rehydrates and helps to clear acne.
Vitamin C
This antioxidant ingredient is a component in the production of collagen, which is the natural tissue that keeps skin supple and young looking. Vitamin C can help slow signs of aging and provide some UV protection, and is for these reasons used frequently in skincare products.
Witch Hazel Extract
Derived directly from the Witch Hazel plant, this extract is known for its soothing properties for burns, insect bites, or irritation of the skin.
Ylang Ylang, a.k.a. "Perfume Tree" (Cananga odorata)
This tree is originally native to Southeast Asia and the Philippines and is noted for its incredibly fragrant star-shaped flowers. In Malaysian, the name means "flower of flowers." For centuries, this flower held strong cultural significance for people native to the tropics who used it as an aphrodisiac and sexual stimulant as well as in their beautifying regimens. It has antibacterial properties, and offers many benefits for skin including balancing oil production and controlling acne and blemishes. It also minimizes wrinkles as it smoothes the skin and stimulates the growth of new skin.
Zinc Oxide
Zinc Oxide is frequently used in lotions and creams for its astringent and soothing properties. It can provide 28 times the skin’s natural protections against UVA and UVB rays, and can be used to thicken lotions and creams.
